Nocturnal Blogging

I think I am on to something here..........nocturnal blogging. I am a creature of habit and that included blogging at my desktop PC, always in my home office, mostly in the mornings. It was such a habit that I almost missed out on what has quickly become my favorite thing this summer when I was forced into my late, late blog visits. Blogging in the late evening, on my laptop, on my covered veranda, by candlelight, and watching the rabbits hop through the yard (yes, I see and hear you). I could turn on the lights, but much prefer the diffused ambiance. Obviously I should add a glass of wine to this setting but that might prompt very silly subject matter and best left to very tolerant friends and family.

So two things...........if you blog it might be good to change locations and settings now and again. Just a thought, it does change your perspective a bit. Like changing a room around or going on a date with your husband. Blogging outdoors at night in the summer is just a fun thing to do. And if you ever build a house, make sure to somehow add a covered veranda to your house plan. You will at some point in the future thank me for this advice.

One more thing just in case you think the new name of my blog should be called A Gift Wrapped Life in Florals, I should mention that I am busy preparing plenty of gift wrapping posts for the weeks ahead. I always did think better at night.

  2. Yes!!! Blogging at night by candlelight is the perfect way to unwind while at the same time letting your creative energies flow. I love to write at night because my mind is a little wilder, a little looser then--even without a glass of wine!

Your veranda looks like the perfect spot to blog, Sande. It's so beautiful! xo Gigi

  5. Sande,

This is a very interesting concept! I imagine that blogging at night outdoors by candlelight (with or without wine)would be quite an enjoyable juxstaposition where nature meets and encompasses technology.
    Enjoy!

  6. I love candlelight and choose to work by it quite often. Your photography simply amazes me. Those vibrant pink gerbera daisies are so beautiful!

Whatever you choose to name or rename your blog, I will be visiting because beauty reigns here, and I always leave inspired. Thank you!

  9. Yes a change in scene is a good thing! On a nice day, I sometimes sit in my backyard with my laptop. If only our weather allowed me to always do so! I'm not complaining about your beautiful floral tributes....keep them coming!

  10. Night is such a special time - the scents, the sounds the soft way the air feels against your skin. What's not to serve as inspiration - especially now that you need to treat yourself a little gently. I'd add the wine, tho.

  11. Nothing wrong with a glass of wine, absolutely no objections from me here ;-) I would also love to have a veranda like yours to enjoy it on ;-)

Anyway, a lovely and inspirational post, thank you & thank you also for commenting on my blog, I appreciate it very much since I know that you're in the middle of a very busy and difficult time.

The third picture is great, one beautiful bloom... Love from London x

  12. Your verandah looks like a heavenly place to write, have a cool glass of 'something something' or anything else really. In Australia the covered 'verendah' is almost a necessity in summer and is incorporated into most architecture especially the further north that your travel. Keep up the beautiful floral posts, I LOVE them.

  13. Sande ~
Gorgeous flowers and how beautifully you live your life ~ perfectly wrapped up in every way!

I also blog mostly at night...in fact, my work
'day' begins after 8PM when the crumb goes to sleep. By day, it is all about her every need and whim, but at night, the other glorious 'jobs' come alive: orders being packaged, articles being written, travels being planned, bloggins and so much more.

Thank you for sharing your 'perfect spot' with us!

    Bisous,
    Melissa

  14. Dear Sande,
I LOVE your evening photographs. What a lovely atmosphere you have created and a wonderful environment for blogging.
I hope that all's well with you, Sande and that your father is still improving. With much love and am thinking of you. XXXX

  15. This is the perfect way to relax at the end of the night and get the creative juices flowing. Unfortunately I have a desktop computer, so I'm stuck at my desk ... but maybe I could drag it outside on the balcony!

  16. What a beautiful spot! I am not sure I would be able to get much blogging done at all if I were there, but I am sure I would be relaxed while I was trying. I would love a covered veranda on my house, but the zoning board is very against them. I am not sure why. One day, I am going to fight "city hall" and get my porch! Keeping you in my thoughts - hope all is going well.

  17. I love how you said that 'nocturnal blogging'. Even before I read your lovely posting, which really set the tone, the ambiance was already hovering.

Much of my blogging is done in the evenings or well into the wee hours, usually with a pretty desk lamp on. I like the candle idea.

  18. Sande - I love the idea of blogging on the veranda - how wonderful that you can do that. I love to blog at night and in the early early morning.

I hope that your father is continuing to recover~~~

  19. Sande-
This is a great idea. It must be so calming. I will have to try it. It would be a bit like reading a book by candlelight:)

  21. Hi my sweet, what a great idea. Oh I am so having a lovely outdoor area built, plus verandas all around the house (it's an aussie thing) so that's sorted honey....mind you I cannot resist a wine too, so you will have to put up with me..lol.

I love your candles, so beautiful.

  26. love your photographs!! Sadly, I'm a morning person, and I don't think after 3 PM, so the thought of thinking in the wee hours of the night is completely foreign to me. But my husband is the biggest night owl out there - he'd love to read/write in the middle of the night.

    :)

  27. I love sitting in the garden at night. You can almost see the plants growing in their sleep. Lovely pictures and inspiring words. Right now, when not at my desk, I like blogging with my grand daughter asleep or cooing on the couch beside me. Bliss.

  28. If only I had wireless! I love the ambiance that you convey in your photos here, Sande....not to mention the lanterns and hurricanes and black & white stripes! It must be a beautiful space; enjoy your glass of wine and keep sharing your beautiful posts with us!!

  29. I tend to post my blog articles in the morning, but I usually read blogs at night. My husband will be watching a ballgame or he might go to bed earlier than I want to and I take my laptop to bed and read and comment. I'd love to do it on my deck...but the bugs are so bad if you are outside in Illinois this time of year.

  30. Hi Sweet Sande! What a very lovely idea. I have a laptop yet seem to chain myself to my wee desk in a not-so-inspiring part of the house. I also like to get up very early to write or to visit other blogs, but I think that part of growing young is to change things up a bit, so I DO thank you for the suggestion! Also, a very warm thank you, as well, for visiting me and leaving such a sweet comment. It is so gratifying to feel that others HEAR me and you absolutely did. I hope your dad continues to improve and congrats on the new baby in the family, too! xx Suzanne

  31. Sande, I think you're on to something! I think I WILL try a change of scenery. Yours with all the candles lit is so enticing. Great idea.

  32. Fresh surroundings, fresh ideas - I like the way you are thinking. Maybe I need to move my blogging tools to my screened-in porch for summer, add a little candlelight, and see what happens.

It would give me a chance to have a serious conversation with the bunny that is eating my flowers.

  33. The flowers are so alive in this post - bursting with form and colour. I blog from my bed in the guest room, but I agree that a change of location can do wonders for the mind and eye.
I sometimes blog from my tea-house whilst sipping tea - glorious - with the birds singing in the distance - heavenly!;-)

  34. I am an early riser (most days) and I value the morning - I try to enjoy the morning outside in the summer as well as the evening. I love your setting and what good a change of scenery can do!

  36. Since I'm new to blogging I have found myself blogging at my kitchen island with a coffee cup in hand very early (like 4:00 am)! I often wake up in the night and feel the need to write. I think I will try and change it up though, inspired by your beautiful photos and the ambience!

  38. Oh Sandi, your blogging spot is lovely! And I totally agree... I like to bring my laptop wherever the action is in the house — usually the kitchen, and while people eat and talk, I type away and enjoy my blog visiting :)

    Wishing you the loveliest weekend,

    xoxo,

  39. What a great idea Sande, altho' mine's kinda reversed. I usually sit with my laptop either downstairs while kinda watching TV or upstairs in our living room. I have a home office. It's really nice. Rarely use it. Perhaps I should discipline myself mroe. We have a deck and pergola outside with LED lights on the pergola. I'll have to try blogging outside in the late evening when I can actually see my screen. The lights are the bright white so it creates a really cool look and feel. Have an awesome week!

  41. YES to a covered porch! I will absolutely try blogging by moonlight. A change of scenery does us all good...

  42. Sande, sounds like some good sound advice. Although I do not have a lap top so that might be a little more difficult to do. Had to laugh about the wine. Maybe you should try it sometime, who knows where you will take us,hehe. I hope your Dad is doing better each day. I have been away for a few days so I am a bit behind but trying to catch up, Kathysue

  47. I LOVE that first photo! It makes me think of the movie (that I also love) with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson...'Something's Gotta Give'. Loved the sets on that and this feels just like them! Hope all is still well with your father!
