Sarah Klassen and some Apricot inspiration

Certain colours just stay in my head and when I saw these apricot silk shoes in a post by fellow Canadian blogger Sarah Klassen I knew this meant it would show up somewhere in the weekly gift wrapping. I simply can't help it, not when stylish bloggers give me so much colour inspiration. If you haven't made it over to her most stylish blog Haute Design, you must make it a point to do so. Sarah has an incredible eye for fashion and design and you will just love it there. I do.

I had a run of "pink" website orders this week so when it came time to wrapping the last order of the week (a personal one) I was in the mood for another direction. Not that I don't love pink, I must use more pink ribbon than anybody in the world. I just wanted something more dramatic, something with that delicious melon colour.

We tend to think of tissue paper as something we crinkle and stuff into a gift bag. As a understated gift wrap it can be beautifully simple. Something you can consider when you want the presentation to be less wrapped so to speak. I will talk about tissue more in the next few weeks and try to show you how to do the hand pleating that you can see under the label if you look carefully. Tissue wrap has a tactile feel that gift wrap paper just can't match. This was one of the gift items that go into the larger box. Each gift is wrapped different, varying papers, ribbon and wrap styles. It just makes the whole unwrapping experience so much more fun don't you think? It can also be a gift wrapping tutorial if they take their time and study the techniques. If they are into that sort of thing.

Do you always have to have a bought card? I like making my own and I really liked the idea of tucking it under the big bow with a little flower peeking out under all that ribbon. It seems more personal somehow. I simply took a blank card in a melon colour, punched a hole in the corner, wired in the petite flower, and wrote my message, no envelope. I pulled it out to photograph but it does get hidden under the bow before it goes out the door.

  6. I just LOVE this blog. For Christmas I used your site as inspiration, and did layers and layers of wrapping. It was so much fun for my family to work thru their packages, each within a biger gift. All coordinated. Maybe this Christmas I'll have to splurge... let me go visit your site and dream... :)

  7. Dear Sande,
I'm not so much a pink person, although, I have been known to use it when I wrap presents but, apricot is such a beautiful colour. So fresh and Springlike.
What beautiful wrapping. I have been told that my presents look good but, I am NOTHING compared to the beautiful work that you do. You have such clever things that you do and ittle things that you must have learnt somewhere.
I, too, would just love to receive an empty box wrapped by you.
    Absolutely stunning.
    Enjoy the weekend, Sande. XXXX

  8. Oh I visit Sarah's blog too, she's lovely.

I think the pleating with the tissue paper is clever, looking forward to more on that. I love that color too, very chic.

The handmade card is so sweet with the little flower....thank you SO much for the inspiration!

  9. As always, you delight and inspire. I was out today looking for something in the shade of melon or turquoise. It would be a fresh counterpoint to all this snow. Bring on spring!

  11. You are so right, Sande. Individually wrapped is such an enjoyable 'un-wrapping' experience. Love to make my own cards too.

    Have a lovely weekend,

  12. I often make my own gift cards, but the flower idea is something I've never done. I love it when someone shares something I will do! I'm all about ribbon and bows, so I love seeing your suggestions. Thank you.

  14. Dear Sande,

Sheila here, from aseasonofharvest. Just dropping by to bring you a bouquet of pretend tulips (apricot) and to tell you that I, too, have been inexplicably drawn to that gorgeous melon color myself! That, and yellow.

I have a question - if you have time. My daughter is getting married in three weeks. Do you have any advice, any tips for me? I truly want to add small touches and flourishes to these final days she is with us...but my brain is soooooooooooo swamped with wedding details, I find myself wishing for some creative inspiration. Can you think of something not-too-involved, little meaningful touches, that I can add to packages or moments (we have three showers coming up) or the rehearsal or ANYthing at all?

You are *the only* person I am asking. No pressure. :-) I won't expect a personalized answer to my emailbox...I will check back

::right here::. I'll check your comment box from today, to see if you had time to respond. If you don't, trust me, I perfectly understand.

    Blessings!!!

  24. I agree Sande, Sarah is fabulous as is her blog. She possesses a keen style sense. I'm so pleased to know that you sometimes wrap with tissue as I often do too. I loved home made cards as they mean that person went the extra mile; truly special.
So happy the Canadians won the gold today in hockey. I was impressed how the majority of Canadian medalists actually sang the National Anthem. Such a beautiful song. Happy new week to you x

  28. I am very drawn to apricot and coral and peach these days. But I'd be drawn to any gift that looks like that no matter the color ! I totally prefer a handmade card or a blank card that the gift giver took the time to fill out rather than just sign. ..
